Assessing Progress Toward Sustainability in
Higher Education
March 29-31, 2001
In March 2001, University Leaders for a Sustainable Future and
the National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Program cohosted
a two-part event on "Assessing Progress Toward Sustainability
in Higher Education":
Part One: a Stakeholder Meeting, including representatives
from the state and federal governments, business and higher
education associations, to consider how sustainability can be
elevated as a concern in higher education and what opportunities
exist for environmental and sustainability assessment. For more
information, visit NWF's Campus Ecology website at www.nwf.org/campusecology/stakeholders.cfm.
Part Two: an intensive "Consultation," involving 35 experienced
faculty, graduate students and practitioners, to explore the
current status of sustainability in higher education and what
hinders or enhances its emergence as a central academic concern
in teaching, research, operations and outreach. For further
